Estimation of intracranial pressure by ultrasound of the optic nerve sheath in an animal model of intracranial hypertension

چکیده

Background Ultrasound of the optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) has been used as a non-invasive and cost-effective bedside alternative to invasive intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring. However, ONSD time-lapse behavior in hypertension (ICH) its relief by means either saline infusion or surgery are still unknown. The objective this study was correlate ultrasonography (ONS) an experimental animal model ICH determine interval needed for return baseline levels. Methods An conducted on 30 pigs. evaluated ultrasound at different ICPs generated balloon inflation, infusion, deflation, measured using intraventricular catheter. Results All variables obtained ONS such left, right, average (AON) were statistically significant estimate ICP value. changed immediately after inflation returned delay min deflation (p = 0.016). No statistical significance observed values with hypertonic infusion. In swine model, showed linear correlation could be estimated formula: ?80.5 + 238.2 × AON. Conclusion present study, measure ICP, although short returning levels case sudden relief.

Optic Nerve Sheath Ultrasound for the Bedside Diagnosis of Intracranial Hypertension: Pitfalls and Potential

Raised intracranial pressure is a complication not just of traumatic brain injury and other acute cerebral insults, but also of a number of general medical conditions. Bedside diagnosis can be difficult; early clinical signs may be misinterpreted, and reliance on cross-sectional imaging studies may further delay diagnosis. Ultrasound is a readily available imaging modality in most critical care...

Optic nerve ultrasound for the detection of raised intracranial pressure.

BACKGROUND Optic nerve ultrasonography (ONUS) may help identify raised intracranial pressure (ICP). The optimal optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) cut-off for the identification of intracranial hypertension has not been established, with some clinical studies suggesting a higher cut-off than may be expected on the basis of prior laboratory investigation. OBJECTIVE To validate ONUS performed b...

Noninvasive and quantitative intracranial pressure estimation using ultrasonographic measurement of optic nerve sheath diameter

We aimed to quantitatively assess intracranial pressure (ICP) using optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) measurements. We recruited 316 neurology patients in whom ultrasonographic ONSD was measured before lumbar puncture. They were randomly divided into a modeling and a test group at a ratio of 7:3. In the modeling group, we conducted univariate and multivariate analyses to assess associations be...
